HD NEWS

First i noticed that some of you are donating again. Thanks but please stop :) Keep your donation for other demoscene resources such as AMP !!!! :)
there is some new information about disk restoring
The mp3 disk is clean and perfect, all mp3 were tested ok! So that is GREAT news :) The SQL disk is .. really broken. They are trying to move magnetic parts to another system in a white room to retrieve all data.
I will have more news at the end of the week.
Stay tuned.

Nice to hear that at least the mp3 data is still ok, but what's even more important is the database IMO, because I often used nectarine to look up "who made this tune, in which demo was this tune used again" etc... Nectarine had a really comprehensive database and it would be really sad to lose all this.
PS: Donate to modarchive.org, we need it. :)
Des news du coté du disque SQL ? Script kiddies sucks and must die.
bigdan
who cross all fingers ;)
I'll donate even if you tell me not to. =P
I want nectarine back up as soon as possible. Having to hunt for my demoscene music again is a bother. This is an entirely selfish reason, and for that I am prepared to pay money. Furthermore, I didn't donate when nectarine was up; I'm repenting now. I hadn't realized how much I had relied on your site all this time.
Ok, I've finally canceled the PayPal subscription. Good luck Yes and thanks for all the nectarines... :)
besh
Don't cancel your submissions. Flood Yes by mega$ donations so that he'll somehow have no choice and keep on going with his magic code and amaze us all.
Yup, tu devrais peut être songer à continuer de collecter les dons, afin de prévoir un backup complètement externe à ton serveur, de façon à éviter que cette mésaventure se reproduise, non ?
Bon courage pour la suite ;)
Hooray, they're starting to come back! I just heard about this today. I'll be rooting for you guys, good luck! In the meantime I'm going to listen to the Demovibes stuff, it's also very good listening. To all with money to throw around, if he doesn't want the donations then you should do as he says and give to some of the other scene projects, which are also running very tight budgets.
Aw, man, I finally find time to try to get back into Nectarine again and discover this horrible news. But, then, I discover this great news! Yes, I am glad things are looking up and that the community will not let this great place die.
Q
I'm agree with Helioth and so I don't cancel my paypal subscription ;)
I think you will need money when the new server will be online :)
And I'm also agree with Ghost Line : use the money to set up a external backup :p

Any news about the disk restoring?
Yeah, please Yes, throw us some more tidbits, tell us how the restoration process is faring! We're all so eager to listen to Nectarine again!
yep it would be great to have news
Yes, Yes give us some new info. We can't live without nectarines in our veins. :)
I've also donated even if he asked to stop. cauz i think that he'll need some money for the work AFTER the HDD restoration.
well it was a smaaaaal amount of money but hey i'm not rich :D btw i've just got an accident using my motorbike so i need to keep some money :(
So, how is the status? No news?
Ou? Ou?
No news at all? Come ooon! :) Almost 2 months have passed! I'd think especially the donators would like to know about the rescue mission's progress...
Hehe YES made another post. From the future, apparently. It says january 2009. That recovery specialist must be having some really high tech equipment there.
Hehe yeah, but that "post from the future" has been there for months... was there even before the "bye bye HD" one.

Yes is going through something really sad at the moment. I'm sure all of you will understand that he wants to keep it private for now. However, he'll be in touch in November with the scenemusic.pl folks, and told me that the database is intact and will be given to Arab. He just asks for some time due to the other incident.

Well I cant demand much I havent donated, but there is one thing I want to say, keep up the good work! :)
@Locutus: well, duh. "Time is the worst place, so to speak, to get lost in." ;)
Yes just seems to have the worst luck. Best wishes to him, and that his fortunes smile.
Waht is the status ?
.... WHAT IS GOING ON ? :(
This is ridiculous!
3+ months and not a sound from Yes
People donated over 400 EUR and no info on HDDs and other stuff!
There may be bad times in life but seriously this is WHACK.
You mean 2.5 KUSD? We cannot force YES to do anything. He's already done an awesome volunteer job with Nectarine since 2001 ... I may only thank him for what he's done and still hope there will be a follow-up ...
The replacement is good. January in time i hope to see the db back. Its worth now.. i think.
i was sad to hear the loss of nectarine, but was *stunned* that there wasn't any kind of backup made to dvd-r / cd-r / offline media at some stage.
the script kid that did this is truly a low life. historically, destroying art is a crime that war mongers carried out for nefarious reasons.
we can only hope YES is well, and that the hdd restore works, but i'd say nectarine is probably gone for good...
http://modarchive.org/
Nectarine might be gone for good, but let's hope we can build Demovibes up to Nectarine's former glory! (http://www.scenemusic.eu/)
Any life sign from YES? Let us something hear from you!
@overtime: a very old Nectarine's MP3 backup burned on CD-R was transmitted to Arab a few month ago.
Hello!
When we could we expect to listen to nectarine again ? Could someone keep this project up ;(
This has been taking FAR too long now. Even some updates or any sign of life would be appreciated. Right now I feel like my donation money was scammed away.
In my opinion, Yes had bought some valuable shit (not have payed for restoration) and is laying low ATM
Prove me wrong!
You might want to read the two IRC logs posted at http://www.scenemusic.eu/forum/thre... , especially post #557.
Personal troubles or not: first collecting $2500 and then not giving any sign of life for seven months... what are we supposed to think?
Whatever happened and in any circumstances, what Yes did since 2001 is worth the $ amount. And I am still donating periodically until my card expires.
Haha, your money is lost forever. There won't be a revival of Nectarine.
That wasn't the point. It's a question of principle about the awesome volunteer job done by Yes since 2001.
Of course, noone will deny that Yes did a fantastic job with Nectarine! Hell, we badly wanted it to stay alive and continue! It's just that it looks very bad if, after giving lots of info and collecting $2500 *for the data recovery* (not for "I'd like some compensation for 8 years of work please"!), which we then were all waiting for so eagerly, he hasn't given (or sent thru a relay) a single bit of information for *seven months*. Anyway, head on over to http://www.scenemusic.eu/demovibes/ We won't be waiting for any "Nectarine revival" any longer.
Pleeease let us know what happened with this.. Did the restore fail? Have you been busy and didn't get around to it? Or is it almost done and will be up soon? ANY kind of info would be better than nothing.. please update!
Is ANYTHING happening? I miss Nectarine. If you don't want to run the site, you should let someone else do it...
Klaus: Head on over to http://www.scenemusic.eu/demovibes/ , you'll like it.
I find it shitty as hell to get donations like this and then never post again. FYI, the top post on this blog that says January 1st wasn't POSTED at January 1st, but rather a few days after the first blog post. So have no illusions, it isn't a few months, it's more than half a year with no word.
In one of the previous posts, the author (owner?) of nectarine wrote that he is ill... If I remember it was something serious. I hope everything is ok! Please correct me, if I'm wrong, but I remember I read something like this here before. So... I hope thise silence is not a reason of any serious treatment. Anyway, I miss nectarine very much and I hope everything is ok, not only with the HD (which is not so important in fact).
